Pre-Junior - Winter 2025

Registration for Fall/Winter season will open on the following dates:

Okotoks/Foothills County Residents: November 15, 2024

Public Registration: November 22, 2024

All Fall/Winter programming will take place at the Okotoks Recreation Centre - Piper Arena and Scott Seaman Sports Rink.

Registration Deadlines:

STARSKATE: January 31, 2025 (or until sessions are full)

Important Program Info

Skaters must be invited to join the Pre-Junior, Intro to Figure Skating program - for more information, click here: Pathway to Figure Skating

REVISED AS OF SEPT 1st: Pre-Junior sessions, previously offered as a full-year program, are now split into separate Fall and Winter sessions.

All Pre-Junior sessions are offered in group format and are a maximum of 45 minute on-ice sessions. Skaters will be supervised for their entire time on-ice.

Program fees for Pre-Junior include costs for ice and coaching fees. Additional costs are noted below.

Multi-Session Discounts are available. Please see the chart under "Available Discounts" for more information. The deadline for the discounts is August 15, 2024.

Payment by instalments is optional and may be selected at checkout.

Dryland training is included in the Friday ice sessions. Dryland focuses on sport-specific movements, endurance/strength conditioning, stretching and a dynamic warm-up that will be used at competition and test day. Also, there will be a focus on dryland jumps and spins to enhance skater's confidence.

DRYLAND NOTICE: Skaters are NOT supervised between the on-ice session and the dryland session. We ask parents to supervise their skater from the on-ice session to the dryland training room or arrange for someone to do so. The same applies for bathroom or water breaks; skaters will have to visit the bathroom or water fountain on their own. If you are not comfortable with this, please stay nearby or arrange for someone to assist your skater.

The Volunteer Policy requires families with a skater in the Pre-Junior level to commit to completing 10 credits of volunteering (1 credit typically equals 1 hour). OSC reserves the right to cancel or adjust sessions or pricing as deemed necessary by the OSC Board of Directors.

Additional Fees

Skate Canada Membership Fee 2024-25 - $62

The Skate Canada Membership fee is due once per season and is mandatory for all on-ice participants. This fee is non-refundable and non-transferrable.

The current season dates are Sept 1, 2024 to August 31, 2025.

Payment is required before any participant may take to the ice. The fee is made up of a registrant fee to both the National office and Section office (Alberta-NWT/Nun), the Safe Sport fee and Injury Benefit Charge.

2025 Ice Show

Additional fees will apply to participate in the upcoming Ice Show in March 2025. More information will be provided closer to the end of the season. Additional costs are to cover ice fees for practice sessions and costumes.

Required Equipment & Apparel

Skaters at this level are required to wear proper leather, laced up figure skates with picks intact. Skaters are to wear flexible but warm skating appropriate apparel which can include skating tights, skating dress, leggings, gloves, etc. Helmets are to be worn by participants up to Stage 5 of CanSkate. Pre-Junior skaters may refer to their coaches for further information on helmet use.

Members are expected to dress their participant in appropriate apparel and equipment. Costs vary and members should expect to add this expense to their budget. OSC will offer OSC branded apparel from time to time and will host used dress/skate sales annually.
